About Me

Meet Your Instructor & Culinary Guide

Food and language are the two most direct ways into a culture.

I grew up in Saitama, just outside Tokyo, in a family that loves to cook. I trained in my brother's kaiseki restaurant, becoming assistant chef in 2006. Since moving to Toronto, I've cooked in some of the city's high-end Japanese restaurants, and for the past nine years I've managed the kitchen at one of its best-known.

I'm also a certified language instructor. I founded The Japanese Cultural Table to share what traditional classes miss: the words, techniques, and hospitality that make you a welcome guest in Japan, whether you're ordering at a counter in Osaka or cooking a traditional meal at home.

Why Learn with Me?

Most language courses teach you to pass exams. Most cooking classes hand you a recipe card. I teach you to take your place at the table.

  1. Taught by a Chef

Learn Japanese through food, culture, and hospitality, the way it's actually used at the table. I've spent 15 years as a professional chef specializing in Japanese cuisine, and I'm a certified language instructor.

  2. Conversation First

Natural rhythm, practical listening, and the vocabulary you'll actually use at an izakaya counter, a tea shop, or a Tokyo train station, at a pace set by your goals and schedule.

  3. The Art of Omotenashi

Every lesson and workshop is rooted in Japanese hospitality: warm, encouraging, and pressure-free for adult learners.
